BURGESS ROAD 4 WAY STOP VICTORY FOR THE PEOPLE

Burgess Rd and Sanders St. New Stop Sign
Monday, August 22, 2011 a day to celebrate.  A four way stop at Burgess Rd., and Sanders Streets became a reality today.  After years of many crashes, injuries and even death at a deadly intersection, the people rallied, met with government officials, wrote letters and mobilized a community's united voice to achieve what many said could never happen.

I want to thank County Commissioner Grover Robinson, County Administrator Randy Oliver, Al Garza, city and county staff, and the Mayor of Pensacola for stepping up to the plate and doing the right thing for the people.

Burgess Road and Sanders Street have many issues to be addressed.  Both streets are unsafe for pedestrians, children, the elderly  and those that ride bicycles.   Hope is on the horizon.  The city and county have worked together to jointly apply for a federal grant that will provide millions of dollars  to upgrade the stormwater system along Burgess Road and install sidewalks along Burgess Rd. and Sanders St.  Pray that our grant will be accepted by the federal government.  Continue to contact your public officials by coming down to City Hall on Thursdays at 5:30 and speak at public forum.  We must never be silent until the community is safe for all of us.

Thanks to all of you for your efforts.  The people united will never be defeated.  United - we won the first round of our battle to improve our neighborhood.
